Coronation Street stars in revolt against show bosses over extra hours and weekend work
Soap celebs are furious that plans to air the show six nights a week will mean extra time on set
CORRIE bosses are facing a revolt from the ITV soap’s cast, who are livid about changes that may force them to work extra hours and weekends.
Chiefs announced earlier this year plans to air the show six days a week rather than five.
But their decision has left them in the line of fire from furious actors and crew, who are now worried they will be expected to work relentlessly.
And show sources told how one meeting held by producers to answer the cast’s questions about the move descended into a real “ding dong.”
One source said: “Producers are holding separate meetings with cast and crew to discuss the changes being made and answer any questions.
“And during the cast meeting, Michael Le Vell and Joe Duttine were having a bit of a ding dong about not wanting to work weekends.
“Things got pretty heated, because they were apparently told they would have to work at least some Saturdays, and were not happy about it at all.
“Meanwhile others were told that there would categorically be no weekends for them. The situation has led to a lot of ill feeling and confusion.
“Many people feel it has been badly handled, and that things are all up in the air. All they want is some clear guidance about what happens now.
“But aside from the general idea that Corrie will follow the same model as Emmerdale - which airs six times a week - nothing seems concrete.”
Tough contracts now ban stars from being more than two hours away - like during the week - so bosses can summon them without notice..
