Queen drummer Roger Taylor to install 20ft statue of Freddie Mercury in his garden

QUEEN drummer Roger Taylor is having a major garden makeover — with a 20ft statue of Freddie Mercury as its centrepiece.

The bronze sculpture was once used to promote the band’s musical We Will Rock You.

Roger, 71, is looking to splash out on a luxurious pool house with a bar and jacuzzi.

Plans also include a party terrace looking over the garden and the giant figure of Freddie.

Taylor — whose 18th century house in Surrey is in a conservation area — needs planning permission.

He previously landed in hot water with planners after putting the statue up in his rockery without asking — but was later granted permission.

In an interview, he said: “It was in a warehouse, costing money, so I said 'why don’t they just put it on a lorry and bring it here, and we’ll put it in the garden?' I also thought it would be very funny to have the statue there and I think Freddie would have found it hilarious.”

The pool house would enclose Roger’s existing outdoor swimming pool and also include a gym and changing rooms.

Guildford Borough Council is set to decide on the plans next month. There have so far been no objections from neighbours.

The iconic singer’s statue was outside London's Dominican Theatre for 12 years until the musical ended in 2014.
