EASTENDERS legend Adam Woodyatt is living in a motorhome after breaking up with his wife of 22 years Beverley Sharp.

The 52-year-old actor, known for playing Albert Square's Ian Beale for 36 years, is on a break from the BBC1 soap and said he is currently living "in a field in Devon".

He bought the four-wheeled home ahead of a tour of the UK in an upcoming play but decided to move into it early, after the show’s start date was delayed from January to July.

He said: “I am loving my break, I’m having a ball. I’m getting ready for the tour which was supposed to have started in January, then it was supposed to start in April and then it was supposed to start in June - it keeps getting knocked back.

“But basically I’m in a motorhome.

“I’ve got a motorhome ready for the tour so I won’t have to worry about staying in hotels or anything like that.

“But I’ve taken advantage of it and I’m currently in a field in Devon.”

Adam, who has shocked fans by sporting bushy facial hair recently, confirmed the end of his marriage last August, with a rep for the actor revealing they had decided to separate the previous year.

The couple, who wed in 1998, have grown-up children Jessica and Samuel together.

It was previously revealed that Adam gets paid between £200,000 and £249,000 a year for his role in the soap.

His character Ian was last seen on screen in January after being written out for a prolonged holiday so that he could star in an adaptation of the popular crime novel Looking Good Dead by Peter James.

Speaking on Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 breakfast show today, he added: “It’s a cracking tour. My only complaint is seeing as I’m the driver of said motorhome… at one point we’ve got to go from Edinburgh to Brighton.”
