Brian McFadden admits to “buying his kids affection” after his split from ex-wife Kerry Katona
The singer opened up about their marriage during an appearance on Loose Women
BRIAN McFadden has opened up about the "guilt" he felt following his split from wife Kerry Katona in 2004.
During a discussion on what the Loose Women panel dubbed as “dad guilt” on Monday, the 36-year-old admitted to spoiling their children after they separated.
He revealed: “When I separated from Kerry, the kids went to live with her and you do get that guilt. So when you see them, you do spoil them more… It’s like your trying to buy their affection. I was in Australia a lot of the time too.”
However, the former Westlife singer admitted to acknowledging this behaviour, adding: “I started to notice that the girls would regularly text me, and I’d look through their messages and it’d be because they were looking for something.
"Now if they want something substantial, even just for their birthday, I make them work for half of it.”
Brian and Kerry married in 2002 and split in 2004 - during their time together they had two daughters, Molly-Marie and Lilly-Sue.
He then went on to marry model and DJ Vogue Williams in 2012, before announcing their separation last summer.
While discussing how to deal with break ups later in the show, he admitted: “I’ve always had this thing where I can just switch off straight away - like they don’t exist, except for Kerry, obviously, because we’ve got children.
"It’s not like I want them to be dead… but you know what? I think when you break up with someone and was together a long time – it is like a death and it is like mourning someone."
Explaining his comparison, Brian added: "Whether they’re dead or alive, they aren’t there anymore. What’s the point in sitting there thinking of all the good times and getting up and crying?
"Life is so short, you’ve just got to move on. I try to make my life as happy as I can.”
