Demi told fans: "I just thought I'd update you as I'm finally awake and just had my lunch.

"So I've had my full thyroidectomy. You can see the tube coming out of my neck there, which is probably the most painful thing about it.

"It goes to this drain here, which takes up all the blood.

"I feel surprisingly better this time. I don't know whether that's because I've been through it and knew what to expect.

"The surgeon told me that over the past few weeks there's been a signifcant increase in the number of young girls getting checked at the department.

"He thinks it's because of me, which is absolutely amazing. So, make sure you're getting your lumps checked."

The 22-year-old was diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier this year after the coronavirus pandemic delayed tests on her mystery lump six times.

Yesterday she told how nurses struggled to wake her following the operation as she shared a video from her hospital bed.

Showing where the surgery on her neck was, she told her followers: “I’ve just woken up. Pain is so much worse this time. I’ve been asleep for hours, nurses struggled to wake me up.”

The brave star added: “Thank you for everyone’s kind messages.”

Demi's first surgery to remove the lump from her neck left a two-inch scar and she needed this operation to remove her entire thyroid.

The Love Islander earlier revealed how she posted about her cancer diagnosis on social media before telling her family.

She broke down in tears as she told her fans she had thyroid cancer on Instagram before undergoing an operation to remove a golf-ball size tumour.

In a new interview, Demi said she regretted not telling her family first and admitted she got swept up in the emotion of the diagnosis.
