Tom Cruise celebrates 59th birthday by watching England trounce Ukraine
WINNING the Euros felt like Mission: Impossible a fortnight ago, but now even Ethan Hunt is behind the England team.
I’ve learned that Tom Cruise, who plays the spy in the M:I movies, celebrated his 59th birthday on Saturday night with a party in front of the big match.
Almost 21million Brits tuned in to watch our boys triumph over Ukraine and Tom was no exception, welcoming a small group of pals to his new home in Biggin Hill on the outskirts of London to ring in his birthday — and the victory.
Tom is believed to be worth more than £400million but has given up the £335,000-a-month Knightsbridge penthouse he had been staying in to relocate to his new cottage in the sticks.
A source said: “The nation has been swept up with football fever and Tom is no exception — he’s been gripped.
“He turned 59 on Saturday and had mates around to watch the big game as his way of celebrating. Obviously the result made it even better.
"He’s American but he has spent so much time here and has English heritage.
“Tom has only recently moved to this new home, which feels like it’s practically in the countryside. He sees it as his rural bolt-hole, away from the hustle and bustle of London where he had been before.”
For much of the past year Tom has been shooting back-to-back Mission: Impossible films — the seventh and eighth instalments of the franchise — in the UK.
But they have hit a string of setbacks.
Most recently, filming was shut down because of yet another Covid outbreak in the crew.
It has caused huge headaches for Tom, particularly as he has other commitments he is trying to juggle to ensure the next film gets finished.
At the end of last month I revealed how another shutdown caused by the pandemic had been blamed on Tom himself.
Some crew members said they suspected Tom was the possible cause of the postponement and said it was becoming a joke on set how many times they’d had to pause the shoot.

To add to their worries, time is up for Tom and his team after they were given just 21 days to wrap up the production to avoid further costly delays.
Because of all that, I can’t imagine he has had the best time while here.
But I’m sure England winning the Euros would lift his mood — and that of the nation.
