Disney bring in new writer to take over on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Tony Gilroy is "supervising" the editing process after overseeing five weeks of vital re-shoots
THE clock is well and truly ticking for the highly anticipated Disney spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
It was revealed in June that the film was undergoing some pretty extensive re-shoots - but now it seems there could be more changes than we expected.
Disney have reportedly brought in writer Tony Gilroy to work on the film and he's been given the all clear to take the lead on post-production.
There was some concern over where the 59-year-old's involvement would leave director Gareth Edwards.
Since the writer joined the team, Edwards has allegedly given inputs on the edits, while Gilroy takes over.
But according to sources, the pair are happily working together, which they previously did during the making of Godzilla too.
A source told The Hollywood Reporter, "There are not two separate editing rooms; they are all in there with their ideas. Tony's a strong force, but they're all working together."
Gilroy, 59, has impressive industry experience, having worked on many of the Bourne films, Michael Clayton and Duplicity.
So it's no surprise that Disney were happy putting the edits, which include the film's hotly anticipated ending, in his hands.
The spin-off, which leads straight into the original Star Wars: A New Hope movie, stars Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed and Mads Mikkelsen and is set for release later this year.
Disney have remained silent on the topic.
