Piers Morgan claims Dan Walker was sacked from Football Focus during nasty spat over the Olympics
PIERS Morgan has bluntly accused arch-rival Dan Walker of “lying” to fans about the truth surrounding his exit from Football Focus.
The former Good Morning Britain anchor suggested the BBC Breakfast host had been ousted from the plum weekend sports show role in favour of Alex Scott – and had not himself “chosen” to leave.
In April Dan announced he would be leaving Football Focus and teased “one or two exciting opportunities” that would soon be revealed.
Yet taking aim at the presenter during a fiery Twitter spat – one of many – centred on Meghan Markle and many between the pair – Piers was quick to reply to a fan who wrote: “Erm….didn’t @mrdanwalker choose to leave Football Focus. Whereas you flounced off!”
The broadcaster responded: “No, Dan lied to the public that he ‘chose’ to leave – but in fact got told Alex Scott was replacing him.
“No wonder he supports Princess Pinocchio [Piers’ term for Meghan].. both speak with forked tongue!”

The pair’s latest drama came following Piers’ controversial views on Olympic medals, in which he claimed only a gold was worthy to be celebrated at Tokyo 2020.
Pointless host Richard Osman then waded in to write of Piers: “To be fair he was in second place in the breakfast ratings for years. I mean, in a field of two, but it’s still a silver medal,” referring to his time on GMB.
Piers was quick to reply: “And then we came 1st, and I left. I believe they call that ‘TV Gold’.”
Dan quickly took up the baton to berate Piers as he wrote: “You stormed off set when lanced by your own colleagues. They challenged you because you claimed a woman – who said she had suicidal thoughts – was lying.
“Of course everyone watched but to claim that as a victory? Really?
“What a strange hill to die on.”
After re-Tweeting Dan’s message, Piers added the comment: “Hi Saint Daniel, I called out Meghan Markle’s disingenuous bulls**t, just as I did when Govt ministers spewed it. It’s called ‘journalism’ – you should try it sometime, then you wouldn’t keep losing jobs like Football Focus for being such a tedious virtue-signalling twerp!”
It has been an amazing 12 years and I can honestly say I have loved every single second of it
Dan Walker
When he revealed he would be leaving Football Focus following 12 years on the show, Dan told fans: “This is going to be my last season presenting Football Focus.
“It has been an amazing 12 years and I can honestly say I have loved every single second of it.
“I am so proud of the job we’ve done, the changes we’ve made and issues we’ve looked at a time when the football landscape has changed immeasurably.
“But, having said all that, after 12 years it’s time for someone else to take the reins.”
Walker added: “I’d like to say thank you to the amazing team at Focus who put so much into the show each week and thank you to the audience for tuning in every Saturday.”
The Sun Online has gone to Dan’s reps for comment.
