An insider said: “He was obviously huge this year and would be a dream signing.

But considering the man is on something like a two-year rehab to get walking properly, we might have to wait until next year to see him do the paso doble.”

Tim, 44, is having treatment to recover muscle strength lost in the zero gravity of the International Space Station.

Returning astronauts must learn how to walk and be careful of sudden moves.

They are also specifically warned not to do activities like dancing as they are at a high risk of breaking weakened bones.

Meanwhile, Ed Balls is worried about his fitness after being unveiled as the show’s first contestant yesterday.

The Labour ex-Shadow Chancellor has been in training for weeks after fearing the show’s tough medical.
Balls, 49, feared his belly would get in the way of his dancing on Strictly.

He said: “I’ll do 12 hours a day training and hopefully I will last a week, maybe two.”
