"Fearless" Sean Lock's cause of death was lung cancer, his friend Bill Bailey revealed, as it emerged the star left his fortune to his family.
The Eight Out of 10 cats legend passed away earlier this week surrounded by family, sparking tributes from across the world of comedy.
Close friend Bill Bailey told : "He had been diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago and it was at the time quite a blow, particularly when it was quite advanced.
'We've tried to make the most of the last few years. We spent a lot of time together and went on trips together. And he's continued to work."
Bailey also paid tribute to Lock's "strength" saying: "He was fearless and determined and that's what gave them strength."

Writing in the , Harry Hill said: “He took his illness in typically dry style. I heard he was in a hospice for a bit of a rest.

Martin Stone runs the kitchen and also founded the Next Meal website to help vulnerable people find hot meals – and decribed the much loved comedian as “more than just a volunteer”.
He told the Ham&High : “I always want to thank [Sean] for his wonderful support.
“He was so lovely, committed and engaging in supporting us. He was kind and a friend, more than just a volunteer, always supporting our community.”

In a 2010 interview with , Lock described how he and Anoushka would strike a healthy work-life balance for their family when he came home from lengthy tours.
“Every time I come back me and the wife have arguments and I fall out with the kids,” he said.
“The problem is she doesn’t know anything about how hard my job is and likewise I’ve forgotten how hard her job is. That’s the hard bit, but you get over it.
“Recently my wife said: ‘The best thing to do when you come back is just shut the f**k up.
“‘Don’t say anything. Don’t get involved. Know your position. You’re the lowest in the family, you’re right behind the baby in the list of important things. Stay there. And strangely, that sort of worked.”

The star of TV and stand-up comedy died following a private battle with lung cancer aged 58.
Lock took to the stage of the Hammersmith venue numerous times during his career, including during his 2013 Purple Van Man tour, and appeared in long-running BBC stand-up show Live At The Apollo.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Apollo posted a picture on Twitter of its tribute sign, showing the message: “RIP Sean Lock.”

Lock's agent confirmed on Wednesday that the comedian had passed away from cancer.
Martin Spurs Nörden wrote on Twitter: "We need to get Tiger Who Came for a Pint" printed in memory of Sean Lock. Proceeds to go to the research into cancer."
Brian Hutton added: "We all want Sean Lock's hilarious book, The Tiger Who Came for a Pint to be published for charity."
David Hicks said: "Someone (a publisher?) needs to put this book together for a charity of his family’s choosing.
"I can help but need those illustration files that Sean Lock used? Would also help pay for it."

"The tiger drank his pint quietly beside the quiz machine. Soon, what with the beer, fags and flame-grilled McCoy's, he'd spent all his money.
"But he didn't half have a thirst on."
SEAN LOCK LEFT £3MILLION FORTUNE TO HIS FAMILY
Sean Lock has left his family a fortune of around £3million after his tragic cancer death.
The comedian passed away this week aged 58 after a long battle with cancer.
Annual accounts for his Sean Lock Ltd company had cash reserves of just over £1million.
Documents posted on Companies House last month also show he had total assets – including property worth £350,000 – of £2.8million.
The dad-of-three, who starred on 8 Out of 10 Cats and 8 Our of 10 Cats Does Countdown, is also said to have earned more than £1million in 2019.
SEAN LOCK MADE REGULAR TRIPS TO VISIT UNCLE IN NORTHERN IRELAND
In a chat with pal Joe Rooney — who featured in the hit TV series Father Ted — Sean Lock revealed his strong south Armagh roots and his Northern Irish mother’s tough life in a podcast recorded before his lung cancer battle.
“They were tough times in those days,” he explained.
He continued to explain his roots, saying: “My mother was Irish, she was from a place called Cullaville, which is between Crossmaglen and Castleblaney, right on the border.
“She was born there and she grew up there, and in Castleblaney in Monaghan. Then she moved, like many young Irish women, to Liverpool in the early 50s and ended up down in Wimbledon, where she met my dad, who was from Wandsworth.”
In the podcast, Lock went on to describe how his mother was adopted by relatives when his grandmother died young, meaning he’d go see his uncle when he could.

“He’s amazingly courageous and tough individual who was mentally strong throughout the whole time. I’m just grateful for the time we have had together.”
