Telly star James Corden hit with whopping £710k tax bill after closing UK company
£1.5M-a-year chat show host's advisors have disputed the massive claim
JAMES Corden has been hit with a tax bill of £709,395 after closing one of his companies in the UK.
The £1.5million-a-year chat show host, 37, was served notice of the outstanding sum by HMRC after shutting down JK Corden Limited, which he'd opened in 2003 after his success on sitcom Gavin and Stacey.
However advisors in the UK disputed the claim, ultimately settling for an undisclosed smaller sum.
It's not as if he couldn't afford it, though — the star is reportedly worth £10million, after extending his contract to host US talk show The Late Late Show by two years.
James moved to Los Angeles last year after landing the original three-year deal, and he's admitted he didn't buy a sofa for nine months — because he was so nervous about being fired.
His fears proved unfounded, however, as James has been a hit with American audiences.
The show's Carpool Karaoke segment has been particularly popular, with James driving around LA singing with A-listers like Michelle Obama, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez and Adele.
Apple have even bought rights to stream 16 extended episodes of Carpool Karoake — while US network TBS are creating a spin-off show based on his James' celebrity rap battle segment.
Now James lives with his wife and two kids in a £7.7m mansion in posh Brentwood, California, also home to Gwyneth Paltrow, John Travolta, Cindy Crawford and Steven Spielberg.
Tax bill or no tax bill, it's probably safe to buy as many sofas as he likes.
