Who is banned from the Met Gala?
SINCE 1948, the Met Gala has paid homage to fashion with outstanding costumes and evening wear adorning only the most A list of celebrities.
The Met Gala, an invite-only fundraising event, is organized and overseen by American Vogue's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
While several A-list celebrities have already confirmed they'll be in attendance, including the night's hosts – Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Hemsworth – some famous names won't make the list.
Tim Gunn
Author and television personality Tim Gunn enjoyed attending Met Galas until 2006, when his invitation was rescinded indefinitely.
Gunn was banned after he publicly joked about seeing Anna Wintour getting carried down the stairs at a fashion show by two sizable bodyguards.
After disclosing his most "unforgettable" fashion memory to , Vogue asked him to retract his statement, but he refused, leading him to be shunned from the Met Gala.
Rachel Zoe
Celebrity stylist and fashion designer Rachel Zoe was once invited to Brian Atwood's table at the 2007 Gala – but was disinvited shortly afterward.
Zoe hasn’t been invited to the Met Gala since she said she was more influential than Wintour.
Being the editor of Vogue, Wintour didn't take Zoe's comments kindly and removed her from the guest list moving forward.
However, Zoe shows that there is hope for (almost) anyone.
Zayn Malik
While Gigi Hadid's baby daddy may have attended as her plus-one once upon a time, he won't attend again anytime soon.
At least, that's what he told in 2018.
While Zayn may still get an invitation for the big night, he told the outlet he wouldn't go.
He said: "I'd rather be sitting at my house doing something productive than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet… to do the self-indulgent 'Look at me, I'm amazing' thing on the red carpet, it's not me."
Tina Fey
Tina Fey is one of those women who doesn't need anyone else's approval to keep doing her thing.
She said: “You go and it’s this beautiful space and it’s just every jerk from every walk of life is there wearing, like, some stupid thing.”
So we'll be surprised if she decides to go again after that interview (or if she's even invited back).
Donald Trump
Trump always attended the event and even proposed to his wife, Melania, at the 2004 Met Gala.
According to , "Trump proposed with a 13-karat diamond ring worth almost $3 million – but he quickly informed people he got the ring for half-price."
Jameela Jamil
After the theme for the 2023 Met Gala was announced, the actress slammed the annual event and its curators for their choice to honor Lagerfeld, given his problematic past.
Jamil took to Instagram to post a carousel of photos of Lagerfeld and clips of texts in which the late German designer made controversial comments.
Her post read: "This man… was indeed, supremely talented, but used his platform in such a distinctly hateful way, mostly towards women, so repeatedly and up until the last years of his life, showing no remorse, offering no atonement, no apology, no help to groups he attacked… there was no explanation for his cruel outbursts."
"Those groups were women who were sexually assaulted, the entire Me Too movement, gay couples who wanted to adopt, all fat people, specifically fat women, and some of his greatest harm was against Muslim refugees, and the disgusting way he spoke about people fleeing their homes for fear of their lives," she continued.
“This one celebrity was a complete b***h and was miserable to be around."
"It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink," she added.
"I don’t like the farce...we’re dressed up like a bunch of fucking a**holes."
"I don’t like it. I have no interest in fashion...I don’t care," she added.
Lili Reinhart
While there's no official word on whether the Riverdale star was banned from fashion's biggest night, Lili Reinhart doubts she'll make the list for future events.
Reinhart last attended the 2022 Met Gala, where Kim Kardashian infamously wore Marilyn Monroe's Happy Birthday, Mr. President dress.
Days after the event, she criticized the reality star on her Instagram Stories, chastising her for setting a terrible example with her rapid weight loss.
"To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala," she wrote.
"When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word."
"The ignorance is otherworldly disgusting.”
She did recall having fun during the 2021 event, which occurred on her birthday.

“But after going again this year, I don’t think I’ll be invited back," she said.
“I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress," she added coyly, referring to Kardashian.
