According to the Hollywood Reporter, the first episode of season two drew in only 745,000 viewers, meaning it had a market share of just 0.3 per cent of 18 - 49s.

The show had featured Caitlyn, others from the Kardashian clan and trans activists.

The reality TV star, and Olympic athlete, wrote: "After 2 amazing seasons of @IAmCait, it's time for the next adventure. Thank you E! & thank you to the best girlfriends I could ask for!".

A spokesperson from E! had previously said that "no decision had been made"; about the future of the show.

But a source from the production team had told Amercian gossip site Radar that Caitlin's lavish style and controversial beliefs" meant that her audience found it difficult to relate to her.

Caitlyn has seen a large backlash from the transgender community for her conservative beliefs and outlandish comments.

Last year protesters of the reality TV star set up an anti-Caitlin Facebook page describing her as "a clueless rich white woman who thinks disenfranchised trans women of color should just pluck themselves up off the street and stop being so lazy".

At an event organised by the protesters, someone was heard calling her "an insult to trans people", according to Entertainment Tonight.
