Hollyoaks spoiler: Ellie Nightingale involved in new sexual consent storyline

Controversial plot is set to divide opinion in the village

CHANNEL 4 soap Hollyoaks has teamed up with youth charity The Mix and Rape Crisis to tackle the controversial topic of sexual consent in a new storyline involving character Ellie Nightingale.

The plot will initially focus on student Ellie (Sophie Porley) and what happens when she goes home with a man she has just met, and wakes up confused the next morning with no recollection of having sex with him.

Lisa Loveday (Rachel Adedeji) convinces Ellie to go to The Loft’s Traffic Light Party where a handsome guy called Nick catches her eye.

The events that follow will divide opinion amongst the residents of Hollyoaks and explore the blurred lines of sexual consent.

Former Waterloo Road star Ben Ryan Davies will play party-loving student, Nick Savage – Emporium owner Dirk Savage’s nephew – whose arrival instantly makes an impression on the female residents of the village.

Of her role in this new storyline, Sophie said: “I am incredibly grateful that Hollyoaks have trusted me with this important storyline.

“It’s something I feel passionately about, even more so since working with Rape Crisis and The Mix and I hope we can increase discussion around the issue of consent.”

Show newcomer Nick added: “I’m really interested to see how my character develops in order to tell this story about consent.

“I think this is a very important issue so young men and women are educated about how to get and give consent and keep themselves safe while negotiating milestones like to university for the first time.

“It’s a big responsibility and challenge.”

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on Channel 4 at 6:30pm with a first-look on E4 at 7pm.
