Rebekah Vardy’s ex-husband joins ‘Team Coleen Rooney’ to give evidence against star in Wagatha Christie court battle
REBEKAH Vardy’s ex-husband Stephen Clarke has joined Coleen Rooney’s “team” as he prepares to give evidence against his ex in her Wagatha Christie High Court battle.
The 56-year-old businessman is among the witnesses to have given statements to support Coleen’s case, it has been reported.
The pair were married in 2005 and divorced a year later – long before she fell in love with footballer Jamie Vardy.
A source told : “Steve Clarke was Becky’s second husband and knows her as well as anyone, so if he’s called to give his evidence in court, it could be a bombshell.”
Clarke has previously vehemently hit back at claims that he was “violent” towards her, with Rebekah branding their 10-month romance “hell”.
The 39-year-old WAG was 23 when they got hitched, soon after her first marriage to ex Mark Godden broke down.
Clarke was her boss at the time, and Rebekah was eight-months pregnant by another man when they tied the knot.
She claimed in 2017: “That quickly became a horrible relationship — I was scared of him. He’d tell me what to do, where to be and how to act.
“It was the biggest mistake of my life. As soon as [her daughter Megan] was born he made us move abroad. He claimed he owed money and wanted us to run away to Cyprus.
“It went downhill from there. He became violent towards me. He cheated, he lied. It lasted ten months before I escaped back to the UK with my baby after he cheated on me.”
Just weeks after the move abroad, Clarke was sentenced to two years in jail after he was convicted for causing death by reckless driving in a head-on collision that killed two people.
He was served with divorce papers while in prison, with Rebekah calling her marriage breakdown “a lucky escape”.
However, Clarke has denied all of her allegations, telling us in the past: “I was always a good husband and I never cheated on Becky or ever raised my hand to her. I am devastated two people died. It was a terrible accident.”
Rebekah’s libel battle against Coleen is set to take place early next year, with Coleen accusing her fellow WAG of leaking private stories to the press.
Coleen sensationally claimed in 2019 that Rebekah had been releasing fake stories she’d planted on her private Instagram account in an attempt to catch the perpetrator.
She slowly reduced who could see the false updates about her life until Rebekah’s profile was the only one with access – which she announced in a scathing Twitter post.
Rebekah has denied all of the allegations, and is suing for libel.
