Famous Face from Emmerdale joins Coronation Street to play Craig Tinker’s dad
Actor Paul Loughran, who played Butch Dingle until 2000, will make the switch to Wetherfield
SOAP addicts are set to do a double take as an Emmerdale favourite makes the switch to the Corrie cobbles to play Craig Tinker’s dad.
Fans are all too familiar with brash Beth Tinker (Lisa George) – the mum to the cheeky flame-haired lad (Colson Smith) – who has been a firm favourite since 2012.
Yet the identity of his character’s dad, Darryl, has so far remained a secret.
The only hint has been given by Craig’s rat, who shares the same name.
Though all that will change as Paul Loughran, who played Butch Dingle, will soon make his mark on Wetherfield as Craig’s previously unknown parent.
The Northern Irish actor first saw TV fame in the ITV soap in 1994 yet telly fans were left devastated after his character was killed off in a bus crash six years later.
In his new job playing Darryl, he will now attempt to build bonds as with Craig during emotional scenes where he admits he has spent a chunk of his life behind bars.
A source “Paul has filmed some scenes as Darryl and there is huge drama ahead for the Tinkers as Craig comes face to face with his dad.”
Yet teenager Craig is in for another shock as his mum, Beth, confesses she is the one who has tipped off the police about her ex’s criminal antics.
He is then put in a tricky position as he deals with the aftermath of her revelation.
In a recent chat with BBC TV host Aled Jones, actor Colson revealed Corrie’s hardcore followers would soon see a “different side” to his caring character.
Recently, they have witnessed him support Faye Windass through her teenage pregnancy but will soon lock horns with Beth because of his decision to join the police.
His desire to join the forces was sparked after he saw Kylie Platt stabbed to death in front of him – and he took no action.
Craig told Aled’s Weekend chat show: “The street knew he stood there and did nothing.”
