X Factor’s Louis Walsh has admitted that he would consider assisted suicide if he was seriously ill
The talent judge said he would not want to spend his last years in a nursing home
THE X Factor’s Louis Walsh has admitted that he would definitely consider assisted suicide if he was seriously ill.
The talent judge said he would hate the idea of being stuck in a wheelchair in a nursing home and would rather take his own life.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he said he feels the same way as TV couple Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan who admitted two years ago they have a suicide pack if one of them falls seriously ill.
Louis said: “Yes, I would. I’ve thought about that.I don’t want to hang around in a wheelchair in a nursing home. I don’t. I don’t want to be like that.
“I have thought about it recently. I would take some pills and fly off. That’s why we have to enjoy ourselves while we are here.”
Louis, 64, revealed last year that his mother is suffering from Alzheimer’s and it had reached the stage where she no longer recognised him.
Speaking to Woman magazine in December, he said despite her deteriorating memory, she was still in good health.
He said: “My mum has got Alzheimer’s now. She doesn’t know me. But she’s fine, healthy and happy, and doesn’t know any better.”

Louis was the second eldest of nine children, born to Maureen and her late husband Frank Walsh and has always been close with his mother
In 2007, he famously invited her to one of The X Factor live shows and she embarrassed him by announcing his name was really Michael Vincent.
But music wasn’t a path she wanted him to go down as she wanted him to join the clergy before his career took off in the 1990s with the success of his boy band Boyzone.
Louis returned to The X Factor last night after a year’s absence and said this year was “the best line-up ever”.
