On Wednesday, April 19, Kennedy Jr. announced he was running for president.
He made the announcement in Boston, Massachusetts.
"I've come here today to announce my candidacy for Democratic nomination for president of the United States," he said.
"My mission over the next 18 months of this campaign, and throughout my presidency, will be to end the corrupt merger of state and corporate power that is threatening now to impose a new kind of corporate feudalism on our country," he continued.
On Monday, October 9, Kennedy Jr. announced he will run for president on the independent ticket and will drop his Democratic bid.
His sister, Kerry Kennedy, released this statement after he announced he was running as an independent.
"The decision of our brother Bobby to run as a third party candidate against Joe Biden is dangerous to our country," the statement read.
"Bobby might share the same name as our father but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment.
"We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous for our country," it concluded.
