'it's a daily challenge'

I hide in the loo for peace from my kids when they test my patience but they’ve been the making of me, says Alesha Dixon

ALESHA Dixon has admitted having to hide in the bathroom for peace from her kids when they test her patience.

But the Britain's Got Talent star says becoming a mum has been the "making of me".

She says her daughters - two-year-old Anaya Safiya and Azura Sienna, eight, who she shares with husband Azuka Ononye - encouraged her to end her wild partying days and be the "best version" of herself.

"I like to have fun", Alesha told The Sun at Glamour Weekender.

"I am usually the last one out the club, though I don’t go clubbing much anymore, but having a daughter reined me in a bit because you are thinking about then first and there is only so long you can party before you burn out.

"I had my first daughter at 34, and I think she was the making of me.

"I do everything for my daughters now. They keep me in check, they inspire me, and I want to be the best version of myself I can be for them.

"I want them to grow up in a loving, stable, fun, household, and that is a daily practice for me everyday.

"Children do test your patience, I have an 8 year old and 2 and a half year old, and that alone is a full time job, trying to be a calm patient parent, and then on top having to deal with a business and other projects, it’s a lot, it’s a daily challenge to try and stay calm.

"There is a part of me that enjoys the challenge. I think I’d be quite bored otherwise.

"But finding five minutes to myself does help, I’d have to hide myself in the bathroom if I wanted peace, but even now I can’t do that in peace.

"After we came out of lockdown and we had been locked up after 18 months, I just said yes to get out of the house. Looking at the four walls was a lot."

She was on our screens last week as a judge on Simon Cowell's new show Walk The Line.

Alesha’s next big project is Britain’s Got Talent, which will start filming again next month following a year off air due to the pandemic.
