Jackie Chan to be given honorary Academy Award for ‘extraordinary achievements’ in film

THE action movie star admits he has put everything into his career

JACKIE Chan has certainly earned his stripes in the film industry over the years, with performances in classic films such as Rush Hour, Armour of God and Police Story - as well as writing, directing, producing and choreographing many of his own.

So it comes as no surprise to discover that the infamous star is to be awarded with an honorary gong at this year's Academy Awards for his "extraordinary achievements" in film.

The 62-year-old actor will be presented with his award alongside the other worthy film professionals that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Scientists also chose to honour, British editor Anne V Coates, documentary maker Frederick Wiseman and casting director Lynn Stalmaster.

In a statement, Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs named them "true pioneers and legends in their crafts."

They will receive their awards at the eighth annual Governers Awards on November 12, held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood.

Chan took to Facebook to give a "heartfelt thank you" for the offering, expressing the hard work, passion and commitment he'd put into his career over the years.

"It’s been 56 years since I filmed my first movie when I was six, and I’ve worked on over 200 films to date," he wrote.

"I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Oscars for giving me this award of encouragement and recognizing my achievements while I’m still "young". I’m absolutely honored to be the first Chinese in history to receive this award.

"To be honest, making an action movie isn’t easy. It’s normal for us to get hurt and bleed. Many of us have sustained a body full of injuries and I’m no exception to the case."

It was all worth it, Jackie!
