Strictly host Claudia Winkleman quits Film 2016 over pressure of juggling two jobs and being a mum
Presenter succeeded Jonathan Ross on iconic BBC show but wants just one role as she balances work and family life
CLAUDIA Winkleman is quitting as host of Film 2016.
The Strictly Come Dancing presenter, 44, took over the BBC1 movie show from Jonathan Ross in 2010 alongside film journalist Danny Leigh.
But the pressure of juggling motherhood with two jobs has forced her to bow out.
A source said: “Claudia has decided it’s time to focus her energy on her three young kids and her Strictly job.
“She is really keen to spend more time with Matilda, Jake and Arthur but the stress of juggling two jobs has made this increasingly difficult.
“On top of this, her Strictly commitments are getting more demanding and she is keen to make it her main commitment.”
Claudia said: “I’m sad about leaving and it wasn’t an easy decision. The show simply deserves someone who can give it their all.”
Film drew in an average of 690,000 viewers under Wossy but after Claudia arrived it was watched by 40,000 more.
A source added: “The BBC are gutted to see Claudia leave Film. With her quick wit she has quickly become a fan favourite.”
Claudia landed the role after impressing bosses with her arts reviews on her Radio 2 show, where she often discusses films.
She beat high-profile names including Mark Kermode and Mariella Frostrup to the job.
