'He never gave up'

Shayne Ward beats X Factor curse to win SECOND Coronation Street acting award

It is onwards and upwards for the singer-turned soap hunk

FORMER X Factor Winner Shayne Ward has proved that there is life after reality TV as he scooped his second gong for his role in Coronation Street at the TV Choice Awards.

The 31-year-old – who plays Cobbles heart-throb Aidan Connor – was named best soap newcomer at the annual glitzy award ceremony which was held this evening (September 5) at London’s Dorchester Hotel.

It follows his victory at the National Television Awards in the same category earlier this year.

However the road to get there has not always been a smooth one.

Reflecting on his success, Shayne’s twin sister Emma Ward exclusively told The Sun Online: “I do remember there was a time things went a bit quiet for him. [It] really hit him hard but he never gave up.

“I told him he had too much talent to waste [and that] something would happen. Might seem like I was just trying to make him feel better but I meant every word.”

She added: “His talents go beyond anything I've ever known and if ever anyone was born to succeed in life it's him!

“I'm super proud of him. He’s a great singer, great actor and most importantly a fantastic brother.”

Despite sell-out tours, his own waxwork in Madame Tussauds and success internationally, his career stalled when his third album was hit by several delays by his record company.

Shayne’s ever loyal fanbase even set up a campaign including staging a protest outside Manchester’s Key 103 radio station in an attempt to try and get things moving.

The album was finally released late 2010 but received little publicity and he was eventually dropped by his label the following summer.

In the years that followed Shayne went on to carve out a name from himself by starring in the west end production of Rock Of Ages and in a national tour of Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds.

He also had a stint in ITV ice skating show Dancing On Ice in 2013 and last year saw him self-release his fourth album via crowd funded initiative Pledge Music.
