Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt signs up for I’m A Celebrity
The star is hoping it will be a spring board for more TV work and to plug her upcoming workout DVD
SHE’s made a name for herself sitting on a sofa watching telly alongside her mum and dad.
But SCARLETT MOFFATT is about to be kept company by two different Geordies. I’m told that the popular TV star, who shot to fame on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, is swapping her front room for the Australian jungle as she’s heading into this year’s I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, hosted by ANT AND DEC.
Scarlett, who I think is one of the best things about the show, will use the opportunity to plug a fitness DVD having signed a big-money deal to front one in time for Christmas.
She is also hoping the show will act as a springboard to even more TV work.
A source said: “Scarlett has gone down really well on Gogglebox and I’m A Celeb producers think she’s a perfect fit for them.
“Her hilarious one-liners and frank views make great telly for Channel so they want a bit of the action.
“They think she can be a better version of VICKY PATTISON, who unexpectedly won last year’s show.
“Also it’s win-win as she’ll look great in a bikini so will give them the much sought-after waterfall shot they want every year. And Scarlett can promote her DVD.”
The Geordie lass looks almost unrecognisable after shedding the pounds after being told by doctors she was at risk of diabetes after years of partying - and sitting on a sofa.
But flying around the world and living among creepy crawlies could come at a cost.
I’m told that Channel 4 aren’t overly-keen with the move – which she’ll be aware of given they’ve locked horns over non-Gogglebox deals before.
I revealed back in April how they’d cost her a huge endorsement deal worth £25,000 with diet brand Forza because she didn’t ask their permission.
Personally I think Scarlett, and her lovely family, are brilliant value on the show and they’d be mad to lose them.
And I’m putting her down as an early favourite in the jungle too.
Level best for Downtown Rob
I REVEALED last month how Mr Carson actor JIM CARTER has struggled to find work since appearing on Downton Abbey.
And it seems the popular ITV drama has had the same effect on former Corrie star ROB JAMES-COLLIER – as he had to wait seven months to land a new role after the period drama ended.
But Rob has now bagged the part of a cop in new ITV drama The Level, much to his relief.
Rob, who played gay butler Thomas Barrow, said: “I didn’t work for seven months after Downton.
“I could have been waiting for three years, you just don’t know. But this thankfully came along.”
Rob also revealed that he does not get any preferential treatment by casting teams, despite having starred on one of the country’s most popular shows during his Downton days.
He said of his latest role: “I auditioned like everybody else.
“I always try to do something new and something different and fortunately they picked me.
“It’s not always the way. It’s a tough game to be in.
“I always say it but there are better actors than me out of work all the time.”
But not many who have been in TV’s biggest drama.

O'Briain: I'm a 'bot scared
DARA O'BRIAIN fears that if robots take over the world, they will come for him first.
The star, who hosts new video game show Go 8 Bit on Dave as well as Robot Wars on BBC2, said: “I will be first against the wall when the robot revolution comes, having directly profited from them fighting each other.
“I will be regarded in the new robot annals as history’s greatest monster.”
Someone else who Dara sees as a monster is Harry Potter star SIR MICHAEL GAMBON, who he says carries around a fake signed picture of ROBERT DE NIRO.
He said: “He walked into a shop, bought a picture of De Niro and wrote: ‘Dear Mike, all the best, Bobby.’
“He lies in interviews all the time, too. He’ll tell people how he started as a dancer but fell into the orchestral pit.”
Sir Michael may sign up to lead the robot army after this.
Fall guys are back
AT the end of the last series of The Fall JAMIE DORNAN’s character Paul Spector was fighting for his life.
But he was back on his feet yesterday for the launch of the third series of the BBC drama alongside co-star GILLIAN ANDERSON, with Paul.
The show returns at the end of the month. Will evil Paul survive? It’s surely time he got his comeuppance.
SOAPBOX
EMOTIONS run high on Albert Square as the day of Paul Coker’s funeral finally arrives during tonight’s EASTENDERS.
It’s clear the Cokers are at odds. Les feels he’s struggling to help Pam get through the painful send-off for their grandson, while Pam tells her sister Mim about Les’s detached behaviour.
After days of resisting it, Pam is later convinced to see Paul’s body and say a final goodbye to him.
Let’s hope this gives her the closure she needs.
Meanwhile, over on EMMERDALE, Moira Dingle is left stunned when former flame James Barton – played by the departing Bill Ward – declares his love for her.
I wonder how she will respond.
