COL'S STING OP

Coleen Rooney ‘planted up to 39 false stories about herself in Wagatha Christie hunt’

COLEEN Rooney planted up to 39 false stories about herself as she hunted for a mole who allegedly sold information to the media, it has been claimed.

Yet only three of them - about a flooded basement, gender selection and a planned TV comeback - were used in the media before Coleen dramatically accused Becky Vardy of selling stories in her 'Wagatha Christie' post.

Other stories planted as part of the ‘sting’ operation are said to have included one about the Rooneys beefing up security and getting guard dogs after a spate of break-ins at footballers’ homes.

Another featured Coleen, 35, telling followers she was going out to buy a flash new car.

And a third apparently saw the WAG boasting of a huge shopping spree.

Records submitted to the High Court as part of the libel case brought by Becky, 40, are said to show they were posted after Coleen restricted access to her Instagram in the months before her bombshell October 2019 post.

They also show that Becky viewed the posts – but the vast majority did not result in media stories.

A source close to the case said: “This is dynamite stuff and seems to significantly undermine Coleen’s case.

“If Becky was leaking stories for cash, what happened to all the other ones – the other 36?

“The records seem to show that she was looking at them, and not doing anything.

“This is what she insists happened with the stories that did appear in the media and feature in the case - that she wasn’t bothered enough to think it significant and didn’t need to sell stories on her friend.”

We can reveal that Mum of five Becky’s lawyers have also seized on the fact that some published information was also posted on the Instagram of Coleen’s close friend – and husband Wayne’s cousin – Claire Rooney.

An August 2019 article was based on a picture of Coleen drinking wine at Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire to celebrate Wayne’s return from playing in the US to the UK.

Court papers state that the picture was placed on Claire’s Instagram as well as Coleen’s – and Claire also ‘tagged’ her pal in it which would have drawn attention to the post.

The revelation appears to contradict Coleen’s statement that the information could have only come from her social media.

'MOLE HUNT'

Coleen mounted a ‘mole hunt’ between April 2019 and October 2019.

She then announced she had restricted access to her stories to one person – who she accused of selling information – ending dramatically: “It’s…….Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

We told last week how messages showed how Becky and her agent pal Caroline Watt had worked out Coleen’s plot to turn detective six months before her ‘Wagatha’ post.

One showed Becky – wife of Leicester and England star Jamie Vardy, 35 – send a message to Miss Watt saying: “Maybe she’s (Coleen) put it to see if anyone gives it to the media.”

A witness statement – filed to the High Court by Becky’s solicitor Charlotte Harris – mentions the planted stories which were not used.

It says: “It is clear that the defendant posted a number of “fake” stories during the course of 2019.

“She disclosed 40 Instagram posts/stories and is assumed that all of these, apart from those of the Soho House were ‘fake’.”

Coleen lost the latest round of the long-running court battle this week when she failed in a bid to have Caroline Watt added to the lawsuit for misuse of private information.

She has claimed that messages between Becky and Miss Watt show a cover-up of leaks.

The judge did rule that more messages between the pair should be disclosed.
