'I'M VERY PROUD'

I cried when I moved back into our renovated home – it’s a perfect place to raise a family with Zara, says Sam Thompson

Sam Thompson revealed he broke down in tears after moving back into his newly-renovated home and believes it’s a perfect place to raise a family.

The Made In Chelsea star, 29, has spent the past year remodelling his £1million West London home with girlfriend Zara McDermott and the finished product left him overwhelmed.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, he said: “That’s been my biggest stress over the past year. I’ve absolutely loved it.

“Genuinely, I walk around the gaff and I have impostor syndrome, like ‘oh my god, I can’t believe I live here’.

“I actually cried, as lame as that is, when we first moved back in. I can’t believe how awesome it looks. We’re really happy with it. I feel this is a home I can live in, I can maybe bring up kids one day. I feel very proud of it.”

Sam and Zara, 25, have been together since 2019 and have seen their relationship go from strength to strength following a brief split in 2020.

Describing himself as a “bit of a Hobbit”, Sam said creating a comfortable home and planning for the future are two of his biggest priorities in life.

And he’s taken inspiration from older sister Louise, who lives next door and recently welcomed her first child Leo with her personal trainer fiancé Ryan Libbey, when it comes to family planning.

He continued: “I wanna build the best home I possibly can for the place I’m going to spend 95 percent of my time. And eventually kids, that is my why. I live next to my sister which is so cool. I have no intentions of flipping and doing the whole property development stuff at the moment.

“I suppose it helps having an older sibling going through things you’re eventually going to go through yourself. It is a weird one, I’m almost planning for something that hasn’t happened yet. I’m trying to work towards giving my kids a good home, when it’s ‘wait a sec, I don’t even have kids.’ I’ve always been thinking three or four steps ahead.”

The couple’s state-of-the-art new kitchen is the perfect setting for Sam to put his newly learned cooking skills to use thanks to his time on upcoming reality TV show Celebrity Cooking School.

Guided by Michelin star chef Giorgio Locatelli, a host of hapless cooks including Kerry Katona and Love Island’s Toby Aromolaran are taught to rustle up tasty meals.

Sam’s culinary skills have dramatically improved since the show was filmed, and he is now able to make more than his former go-to dish, a not-too-appealing Pepperami omelette, for girlfriend Zara.

He said: “Zara really values cooking. She loves cooking. I wanted to go and make her a meal, it’s always me being made meals for, I sometimes feel like a kid like ‘Sam dinner’s ready’.”

One of the busiest and enthusiastic people in entertainment, Sam has projects coming out of his eyeballs.

Alongside Love Island’s Teddy Soares, he has teamed up with rum brand to become a real-life avatar in which he goes on a mission to put together the perfect rum and coke.

Working with hunk Teddy was a 'pinch me' moment for Sam, who is a self-described Love Island superfan, and he credits the drinks brand with making his dream come true.

He said: “Teddy was my favourite one out of the show. It’s like catching Pokemon. I've had a photo with a few of them, but I could never get hold of Teddy, and it just so happened Captain Morgan came to the rescue. It was great to meet a genuine hero of mine.”

While he's been a TV regular for nearly a decade, Sam doesn't class himself as a bona fide celebrity, nor any other star with a reality background.

He said: "The thing about this industry, none of us are celebrities. None of us are. We’re not Posh and Becks. We’re just lucky to be where we are.

"I went to the Brits recently. I didn’t even get a photo taken. I genuinely took an autograph book because I thought this is so cool. I don’t think I deserve to be called a celebrity. It’s quite cool to be in an industry where I’m surrounded by so many interesting people that I actually am a fan of. The moment you start thinking you’re better than you are, it’s probably time for you to get out.”

He has come a long way from the 21-year-old bartender who was asked to take part in Made In Chelsea while pulling pints.

Last week it was revealed he is joining Hits Radio as their latest star DJ.

It marks a major step forward in his media career and is the realisation of a lifelong dream too.

He said: "I used to look up to all these radio DJs from the past. The fact I can now be involved in their world. Hits Radio is such a reputable station, I just feel incredibly grateful they’ve given me an opportunity.

"It’s quite hard for someone who has had my background, in terms of reality TV and stuff, to get people to take you relatively seriously when it comes to broadcasting. It’s a really serious job. People spend years honing their craft. I feel very fortunate I’ve been given the opportunity, to be honest.”

Captain Morgan united Sam Thompson and Teddy Soares to take gaming from URL to IRL, all in the name of fun. You can see Sam in avatar action .
