Akin Solanke-Caulker becomes Made In Chelsea’s first ever black castmember
The party boy is a good pal of series regular Alex Mytton
MADE in Chelsea has finally signed up its first ever black castmember – five years after the show first aired.
London-born Akin Solanke-Caulker will follow in the footsteps of Chelsea playboy SPENCER MATTHEWS by joining JAMIE LAING and LOUISE THOMPSON on the E4 reality hit.
Akin, who will join the program next month, revealed in an exclusive interview: “It’s definitely overdue, they need a black person on the show; my mum keeps saying I’m representing.
“I’m not just representing myself but I’m representing other people that look like me, not just the racial side of things but also people who are from where I am from.”
The bachelor, who is a seasoned regular on the West End party scene, grew up in East London before moving to Parsons Green, near Chelsea.
He is also a school pal of ALEX MYTTON but unlike MILLIE MACKINTOSH he does not profess to be next in line of an extravagant fortune.
He said: “I’m not an heir to any biscuit throne or anything of that nature.
“I’m a bit of a hybrid really; my friends call me Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”

Akin will be the very first black character to become a member of the cast but the E4 reality show has previously featured stars of ethnic minorities in cameo roles.
A spokeswoman said: “Made in Chelsea follows the relationships of a genuine group of friends and we are delighted that Akin, who is a close school friend of Alex, has joined the show.”
The show has been in need of a revamp after suffering the loss of love rat Spencer – and Akin reckons he’s up to the challenge of filling his Chelsea boots.
He said: “I’m quite similar to Spencer in that it’s not hard for me to vocalise what I’m feeling. I am definitely a playboy but I’ll try not to be on screen for the sake of my family.
“I’ve been single for the last eight years but I’m not a complete savage.
“The closest to my target is probably LOUISE THOMPSON, she’s quite captivating but she has a boyfriend now anyway.”
Show originals FRANCIS BOUELLE and FREDRIK FERRIER are rejoining the cast along with OLIVER PROUDLOCK.
It sounds like this series could be onto a winner.
