WILL SMITH has insisted there has “never been infidelity” in his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith following Rebel’s controversial joke about him at the Baftas.

He scooped the Leading Actor prize for his role in King Richard but was instead at the Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

After his win, Rebel said: “I thought his best performance over the past year was being OK with all his wife’s boyfriends.”

Will said in the US: “There’s never been infidelity in our marriage.

"Jada and I talk about everything, and we have never surprised one another with anything, ever.”

Jada spoke in 2020 about her “entanglement” with singer August Alsina, saying they had been involved in a relationship while her and Will were separated.

Last year Will said his wife wasn’t “the only one engaging in other sexual relationships” outside of their marriage.

He added yesterday: “I have decided that chatter about my life can be of a benefit to people.

“Chatter is the first stage to having a real conversation and to be able to truly explore if some of the things in your heart are loving or poisonous.”

Two standing ovations

DAME Shirley Bassey is such a huge favourite that she got a standing ovation after getting back from a trip to the LOO.

It was her second such reaction on the night having got one an incredible reception after opening the show with a rendition of her 1971 Bond classic Diamonds Are Forever.

The second came after guests broke into rapturous applause and stood up as she arrived back at her table from a comfort stop at a later official Bafta dinner. Ever the pro, Shirley beamed and held up her hands in appreciation.

She was one of the most in-demand stars of the night.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell made a beeline for her as soon as she arrived at the venue, with Shirley greeting the new mum with a massive hug.

Poor viewing figures

A POOR year for cinema led to the ceremony’s lowest viewing figures for 14 years.

The bash peaked with 2.9million viewers in the final five minutes, when The Power Of The Dog was named Best Film.

Even last year’s dire virtual event had a best of 4.3million viewers.

This year was also beaten by 2020 (3.5million), 2019 (4.1million) and in 2018 (4.6million).

I’m hardly surprised people decided not to tune in, though, after a difficult 12 months with few major cinema releases.

No Time To Die was one of the biggest films of the last year but that was largely snubbed by Bafta in favour of luvvie movies which many of us have not seen.

If Bafta wants to win back viewers next year, it needs to start celebrating the films and stars people actually care about by recognising the blockbusters which have saved the industry.
