Carrie Underwood loved meeting Adele after shows bosses turned their Grammys dressing room into a creche

CARRIE Underwood has revealed Grammys bosses turned her dressing room into a nursery – and made her share it with Adele.

In an exclusive interview backstage following her incredible headline show at LA’s Staples Centre, Carrie told me all about her surprise encounter with the Brit singer.

The US superstar, who I have backed from day one, said: “At the Grammys our dressing rooms were next to each other.

“I think the organisers thought we might both bring our kids, so we had these really huge incredible dressing rooms. They opened up into each other.

“We didn’t bring our kids, yet they gave us this huge dressing room. It was awesome. We had lots of space to relax.”

Much to Carrie’s delight, Adele poked her head through and used her trademark line – “Hello, it’s me”.

Carrie added: “She popped over and said ‘Hello’.

“She is normal. I don’t know why that surprises me. I think you expect the better you are the more weird you are going to be, but she is just super nice, super real and normal.

“We had a chat. I was trying to not be in her way or bug her. She is really sweet.”

After witnessing Carrie’s rise from American Idol wannabe to global superstar, it was a true moment to watch her perform in front of 18,000 fans in LA this week.

The country singer is one of the best live artists around today and has enough hits to play for hours.

Since winning American Idol in 2005, she has become one of the most successful artists in the world, selling more than 65million records worldwide.

But the one thing Carrie can’t quite comprehend is the fact she has now officially out-lived the US talent show which made her famous, after its 15-season run came to an end in March.

She told me: “It is strange. I understand why the show is no longer — 15 years, any TV show to last that long is incredible. That’s insane, that’s an accomplishment.

“I’m just glad I was a part of it. I never would have been here if it were not for that show. I couldn’t have made it on my own.”

Just like her new mate Adele, Carrie recently joined James Corden in his passenger seat for a round of Carpool Karaoke.

Their hilarious video has 18million hits on YouTube, and Carrie revealed there is hours more of unseen footage that wasn’t used. She said: “It was a lot of fun. We drove around forever – all over LA.

“You sing the whole song and they take excerpts of it. There are all these Go Pros on the windshield, so when you stop at a red light people are like, ‘What is going on with that car?’

“There was a lot of interaction with pedestrians and other people nearby. He is really funny.

“James is really great. I enjoy walking into a TV show where you can tell people really enjoy working there.”

Carrie stunned myself and the rest of the Staples Centre crowd with a cover of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You, originally written by country queen Dolly Parton.

It was a poignant moment for the singer, who was preparing for a pre-Grammys party in 2012 when the news of Whitney’s death came through.

She told me: “Even when I was singing it tonight, I had flashbacks to when she passed.

“We were here for the Grammys. We were getting ready for Clive Davis’ party and then we were like, ‘Wait, what just happened?’

“So it flashed through my head when I was singing it. It’s a beautiful song. I hope people don’t focus on any of the sad things that will forever follow it. More than anything I just wanted it to be a celebration.”

While her biggest fan-base is in the US, Carrie has garnered herself huge support in the UK over the past few years.

Now she is desperate to return to Britain – especially for a repeat of her 2012 show at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

She said: “I have enjoyed being there, so the hope is that I will find reasons to go back.

“It makes me happy to see more and more people showing up.

“I would like to go back and do the Royal Albert Hall again. Just to get to play there again would be cool.”
