As the trio are given Marvin Gaye’s Ain’t No Mountain to perform for the judges together – it isn’t long before the disagreements start.

Skarl3t, who abandoned their partners, said: “This is a competition, you can be cool without everybody but we’re not here to make friends.”

Their outspoken comment came after solo singer Kayleigh, 19, tried desperately to get the group to rehears together.

Kayleigh said: “We’ve been looking everywhere for [Skarl3t] and we can’t find them and it’s actually really worrying.

“My biggest fear is being pushed aside. Sometimes it’s really hard to get that limelight.”

As they finally take to the stage together in front of judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Sherzinger and Louis Walsh, Skarl3t confess: “We were on the verge of breakdown.

“We were stressing out about the song because we were stuck with parts we weren’t familiar with.”

Unimpressed at their efforts, Simon concludes: “I could tell there were issues.

"That song is one of the greatest pop songs ever written and when you’re given it you have to treat it properly.”
