She wrote on Instagram: "It’s not been an easy decision for me to make and I know that I’ll return to radio broadcasting in the future but right now, it’s time to take a break.

"Thank you to the bosses of Virgin Radio for being incredibly understanding and supportive of my decision and for holding the door open when the time is right to come back.

"I’ve loved working here over the past six years and I’m so grateful they wanted to make returning to work for me as easy as possible and allowed me to work flexibly, three days a week.

"I really tried to make it work while juggling lots of other projects and being a Mother, however right now, it’s no longer possible to continue the way I have been."

Last week drivetime host Kate documented a "strange day" that resulted in a hospital visit.

While she felt much better after being treated, she hinted at making big life changes to help her both mentally and physically.

Describing it as a wake-up call, she said: "It's easy to forget to look after yourself when you're juggling so much."

And today she admitted to taking on too much work since becoming a mum to daughter Noa, one.

She said: "I want to be more present as a Mum, to spend as much time with my daughter before she starts nursery, then school, and to enjoy quality time together.

"I never did enough of this during maternity leave because of mental health issues and taking on too much other work outside of radio."

Her decision was supported by celebrity pals, with Lisa Snowdon and Giovanna Fletcher leaving her love hearts.

The 2002 Big Brother winner called her time on the station an "incredible ride" which made it all the harder to say goodbye.

Her final show will be this Wednesday, six years to the day that Virgin Radio returned to the airwaves with a launch show hosted on board a train from Manchester to London.
