Chuckle Brothers rumoured as replacements for Mel and Sue as new hosts of The Great British Bake Off
FUNNYMEN The Chuckle Brothers are in the frame to be the new hosts of the Great British Bake Off.
The TV duo have been tipped to replace fans favourites Sue Perkins and Mel Geidroyc, who quit the show alongside cake queen Mary Berry when Love Productions announced it would switch to Channel 4.
Barry and Paul Chuckle captivated the nation in CBBC's ChuckleVision and could well switch grime and pranks for pastry and posh gateaux if they front the hit show.
Yet bookies have placed their odds of bagging the prestigious presenting role at a massive 500/1 after rumours were sparked on social media.
The hilarious siblings released a statement on today's Good Morning Britain which said: "We normally like to keep things confidential, but as this rumour is out on social media we would like to say, that we can't deny or confirm that we have been approached to host The Bake Off!
"However we do know a lot about custard creams, cakes and biscuits."
After showbiz reporter Richard Arnold revealed there was a slim possibility they could star alongside chef Paul Hollywood, who will remain on screens, host Ben Shephard quipped: "They have not ruled themselves out - that's good news.
"But those moustaches with that baking?"
The teaser also whipped fans into a frenzy on Twitter.
One wrote: "If The Chuckle Brothers really have been approached to host the Bake Off then it'll be brilliant.
"Fantastic statement from them on #GMB."
Another fan added: "The chuckle brothers in the running to replace Mel and Sue on GBBO. Hopefully they wont have to put the tent up. To me to you to me to you."
Another was more sceptical and wrote: "Rumours of the Chuckle Brothers to host C4 GBBO? Sigh. . A secret shame I thought we buried in the 90's," while one simply added a perplexed Emoji.
Yesterday we revealed how Mary, 81, had also jumped ship from the show as it heads to rival TV channel - leaving a potential place for the duo to fill.
She released an emotional statement which said: "“What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of 7 years of magic in a tent – The Great British Bake Off.
“The Bake Off family – Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter.
“My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.
“Farewell to soggy bottoms.”
Along with Mary, double-act Mel, 48, and Sue, 46, refused to make the leap to Channel 4.
The presenters quit one day after it was announced the broadcaster had bought the rights for the top-rated show from makers Love Productions in a £75million deal.
