‘She wants to punish him’ Coronation Street’s Sair Khan says Alya revels in blackmailing cheat Sharif
- Alya demands £14,000 from her grandfather this week
- Maria has some tough news for Caz
- Alex announces he's off to Scotland
- Gail and Audrey are stunned by what they find on David's phone
Alya has always been the kind of girl to go for what she wants, so when she learns that Underworld needs £14,000 to get the necessary equipment to churn out her and Sinead’s designs, she’s determined to get her hands on the cash.
With Sharif already begging his granddaughter to keep quiet about his affair with Sonia, ambitious Alya has him right where she wants him and tells him her discretion will come at a cost: 14 grand, to be exact.
“There are a few aspects to the blackmail,” reveals Sair Khan, who plays Alya. “One is that she’s furious with Sharif – he’s got the cash at his disposal because he’s about to buy Sonia a flat, yet he won’t invest in her. Also, she wants to punish him.”
As Sharif tries to find a way to keep his granddaughter and his mistress on side, Alya tells Aidan she’s raised the funds. He’s impressed, and makes her a partner in the venture.
Thrilled to be making her way up in the world, the scheming designer wastes no time in cutting her old pal loose, telling Sinead her services are no longer required.
“It’s not personal,” Sair insists. “It’s just that she knows to focus on the business and make any money out of it, she can’t have any spare parts, and Sinead is collateral damage – sorry!
“Alya is very ambitious. When she came to the Street, having finished uni, she had grand plans to start her own business, that’s always been the goal. With all that’s happened to her over the last few years, she’s got to look out for herself…”
ALEX LEAVES TOWN
Struggling to deal with the fact that her dead hubby Alan is Alex’s real dad, Cathy is too angry to tell her nephew/stepson the truth.
However, when Roy takes the lad to the allotment for the day, he’s stunned to realise that Alex always knew who his father was, but kept quiet to spare Cathy’s feelings.
Now it’s all out in the open, Alex decides it’s best if he moves to Scotland to live with his mum – something Cathy doesn’t try to talk him out of, much to Roy’s horror.
As a frost sets in between the couple, Cathy confides in Fiz that she has struggled to accept Alex since finding out the truth.
Meanwhile, Roy, Alex and Tyrone have set off north of the border, only for Roy’s trusty car The Woody to break down in Inverness.
When Cathy hears, she realises she’s made a terrible mistake and vows to go with Kevin on the rescue mission to persuade Alex to come back – but will it be too little, too late?
MARIA BREAKS CAZ’S HEART
Maria’s been pussyfooting around Caz, trying not to hurt her feelings, ever since that kiss. But dealing with her lovesick friend is not her only worry.
Maria breaks Caz's heart when she finally tells her how she really feels
As well as trying to help Beth fight for her marriage to Kirk, the hairdresser then learns that a family member is dying.
As if that wasn’t enough, she also has to visit her fake-visa hubby Pablo in London. Caz quickly offers to accompany her down to the Big Smoke, a gesture that isn’t lost on Kirk, who tells his sister that Caz clearly has feelings for her.
Deciding she finally needs to spell out to her friend how the land lies, Maria tells Caz they’ll never be anything more than mates, a revelation that sees the ex-solider burst into tears.
But if that makes Caz sob, how will she react when she’s told she needs to move out (again)?
