The album is Robbie’s first since 2013’s Swing Both Ways, as well as his first to be released through Sony Music after The Sun revealed he had quit his old record label Universal to sign with the music giants.

It's his 11th studio album in total and his 19th including compilations and live records.

It follows a string of 11 UK chart-topping albums – a tally only matched by Elvis Presley.

Speaking about his comeback for the first time and explaining the album’s title, Robbie said: “I was musing over the phrase ‘light entertainment’ – all the huge TV shows from when I was a kid, 30 million people watching them, this huge shared experience of these moments called light entertainment.

“Sometimes it can be levelled at people in a bad way, but for me that’s heavy entertainment. That’s what I’m hoping to do with this album – to have a shared experience with millions of people though the medium of light entertainment…but on steroids.”

The album features songs co-written with British superstar Ed Sheeran, Brandon Flowers from The Killers, Grammy-winning songwriter Stuart Price and Robbie’s long-time collaborator Guy Chambers.

It also features a duet with Rufus Wainwright on Hotel Crazy and a duet with John Grant on I Don’t Want to Hurt You.
