BRAD Pitt has pulled out of promoting his new film to focus on his "family situation".

The 52-year-old actor was due to make an appearance at Terrence Malik's 30-years-in-the-making IMAX film Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey, which he stars in, but opted out in a statement made earlier today.

It is the first public statement he has released since announcing his split from Angelina Jolie last week.

Speaking exclusively to Access Hollywood, he said: "Terrence’s Voyage of Time is an incredibly beautiful and unique experiential IMAX film for children and families chronicling the birth of time.

"I’m very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I’m currently focused on my family situation and don’t want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see."

There has been much controversy since the split, including rumours of an affair with his co-star and abuse allegations.

Last week Brad Pitt was reported to have begged his wife to see his children.

Angelina is blocking the actor from visiting their six children while the FBI continue an investigation into alleged child abuse.

Brad also got into a fight with adopted 15-year-old son Maddox on a private jet last Wednesday.

Insiders have since claimed the teenager, originally from Cambodia, was defending his mum when Brad lunged at him.

He released a statement to People confirming their split: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” Pitt said, referring to his six children with Jolie. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
