Our Girl fans up in arms after they were denied seeing Lacey Turner’s Molly Dawes marry Captain James
The actress left after being the lead in the first series but she got her happy ending after all
OUR Girl fans were left disappointed during last night's episode after discovering that Molly Dawes and Captain Charles James had got their happy ending - but they didn't get to see it.
Viewers learnt that the couple, played by EastEnders star Lacey Turner and Ben Aldridge in the first series, had since married, but were baffled at the downplayed revelation.
At the end of the first series, Molly got together with the dashing Captain, played by Ben Aldridge.
But fans, who were left wondering if their relationship progressed, discovered tonight that the pair had tied the knot.
In a scene from last night's episode, the penultimate one in this series, Keegan’s character Lance Corporal Georgie Lane’s fiancé travelled to London to meet up with Charles to talk about his concerns about her PTSD.
And as they chat over a coffee, Charles says, “My wife’s a serving soldier,” which fans immediately picked up on.
They took to Twitter to not only question what they had just heard but were also disappointed they hadn’t seen Charles and Molly get married.
One wrote: “Captain James 'my wife'?? Did he marry Molly and we've been cheated out of a wedding #OurGirl.”
Another added: “Did Captain James just refer to Molly as his wife?!!”
Some fans were delighted the pair got their happy ending as they wrote: “I heard the work 'WIFE' So Happy Molly and Captain James got their happy ending and got married #ourgirl,” as another said: “#OurGirl I heard wife! Mr and Mrs Charles James!! So happy.”
Some even suggested that Molly should come back to the show as one wrote: “Loving #OurGirl series 2 makes me want another Our Girl series with #captainjames and #molly. Love that they are married!!”
And one even asked: “Who votes that we should've had an special episode dedicated to Captain James and Molly's wedding? #ourgirl.”
Lacey, who is best known for her role as Stacey Fowler in EastEnders, starred in the one-off special of Our Girl in 2013 before reprising her role for the first series in 2014.
But she didn’t continue for a second series and explained at the time: “I had an amazing time making Our Girl and taking Molly on her journey.
"Unfortunately I won’t be able to take her through this series as I’m currently busy working on EastEnders, but I know that Tony (Grounds) will write a fantastic series full of action and drama with great characters.”
