Coronation Street cobbles RIPPED UP by bulldozers on old set as decades of telly history is destroyed forever
The famous street looks like a ghost town and will now make way for shops, offices and flats
DEMOLITION workers have ripped up the cobbles from the iconic Coronation Street set as the bulldozers wait to raze decades of telly history to the ground.
Britain’s most famous soap opera street now looks like a ghost town with the shops standing empty and plastic placed across windows to stop any flying glass from the demolition.
The famous cobbles are gone and weeds grow on the pavements where generations of stars delivered their lines.
The photos were uploaded to soap fan site Conversation Street yesterday who then tweeted the snaps and captioned it: “Looks what we’ve been sent! It's the old #Corrie set, photographed yesterday.”
Angry fans shared their dismay as they replied to the post.
One wrote: “A sad state of affairs", while another added: “I would have liked to see the tours kept going.”
Another user remarked: “Very sad and where are the cobbles?? It was this time last year I visited, best time ever."
And one fan in Canada even asked if they could be sent the street sign.
Developers have requested permission to knock down the iconic set and indoor stages to make room for shops, offices and flats.

The old set had been opened to tour parties after Corrie relocated to new studios a few miles from Manchester in MediaCity UK.
But it has been flogged so the prime city centre location can be re-developed and plans sent to the council reveal the set and studios will go.
A notice placed outside the former Corrie HQ – built in the 1960s – says: “Demolition of existing buildings and structures including Stage 1, Coronation Street set and Lot.”
The cast and crew moved to their new £10 million studios at the beginning of 2014.
Bosses opened up the Street to fans but the last visitors were allowed through the gates on New Year’s Eve.
