It was a night to remember, with Wayne writing: "Ed Sheeran….class as always. Brilliant concert."

The Rooneys had just returned from a family holiday in Dubai following the stress of Coleen's Wagatha Christie trial.

Wayne and Ed have been friends for years and, on occasion, have dueted in karaoke bars.

The former England striker previously joked he'd sing at Ed and wife Cherry's wedding.

He wasn't the only major sports star to be in attendance at last night's gig.

Boxing champ Tyson Fury and wife Paris also hung out with Ed backstage.

It was a manic day for the Bad Habits singer.

The 31-year-old opened Capital's Summertime Ball with Barclaycard at London’s Wembley Stadium, before making the 200-mile trip to his stadium gig in the North West.

Joining him on the star-studded Wembley line-up were Harry Styles, David Guetta, KSI, Aitch, Anne-Marie, Jax Jones, George Ezra, Becky Hill, Mabel, Joel Corry, Mimi Webb, Tate McRae, Sigala, Gayle, ArrDee, Lauren Spencer-Smith, A1 x J1, Eddie Benjamin, Maisie Peters, Sam Ryder and Nathan Dawe.

The dad of two - whose wife Cherry secretly gave birth last month - is currently travelling the UK on his + - = ÷ x Tour.

Cherry gave birth to a daughter, a sister for first-born Lyra who is two in September.

In a touching announcement, Ed — Britain’s biggest hitmaker — said the couple are “both so in love” with the tot.

He will no doubt be trying to squeeze in as much dad time as possible
