TRAGIC DEATH

Hollyoaks’ Jade Albright will die from cancer in Channel 4 soap’s latest dark storyline

Actress Kassius Nelson, who plays Jade, revealed the sad news in a video today

HOLLYOAKS' Jade Albright will tragically die from cancer, leaving her boyfriend Alfie and family devastated.

Actress Kassius Nelson, 19, plays the teenager in the soap and revealed the heartbreaking news in a video the Channel 4 soap shared on Twitter.

Jade has been suffering from Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma but it is during the time that she is undergoing treatment that she contracts an infection that her body is unable to fight off in its weakened state.

In the video she features in alongside cast member Richard Linnell (Alfie Nightingale), she reveals: "Most young people do survive Jade's type of cancer but unfortunately for Jade, her treatment isn't working.

"The doctors have offered her more chemotherapy, which weakens her immune system, and she gets an infection that she can't beat. Now what I'm really sad to tell you today is that Jade unfortunately dies."

This will come as a devastating shock to boyfriend Alfie, who has also been struggling with cancer.

The pair have relied on one another to help each other through the rough times, so Alfie will likely feel very alone after Jade's death.

Actor Richard, who plays Alfie revealed that "it is going to be really sad" when it happens on screen.

He said: "And then Alfie is going to struggle quite a lot afterwards without Jade but he has his friends and family around him who will support him."

Hollyoaks is making a concerted effort to raise awareness of cancer and the effect it can have on its patients and has worked closely with the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Last month, Kassius revealed that her character's cancer battle would be "really powerful" and that there were going to be incredibly emotional scenes in store for viewers.

Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood first introduced her character and Alfie last year.

Jade had gone into cancer remission, but saw it return after she discovered a lump and Frankie took her to hospital.
