In a desperate attempt to stop David killing Clayton and himself, Gail, Sarah and Nick resort to drastic measures and hatch a plot to stop him carrying out his murder-suicide bid.
“The Platts come up with a plan to lock him in the Bistro cellar,” reveals Jack P Shepherd, who plays the hell-bent dad.
“They say there has been a power cut in the Bistro but it would be lovely to have a family meal by candlelight.
David agrees it’d be nice to spend the evening with his family because he’s obviously thinking it could be his last night alive.”
After Nick leads him down to the cellar to look for wine, the Platts trap David while his back is turned and tell him through the door that they’ve seen his farewell video.
“Gail only wants him down there for the night until the trial is over and Clayton is safely out of the way, but David’s first thought is how to get out,” says Jack.
“He is pleading with them, explaining that it’s his only chance to get revenge on Clayton. Nick is trying to talk to him and he’s having none of it. There are loads of emotional scenes down there between the brothers.”
As time ticks on, David frantically searches for an escape route.
“He’s crawling through air vents and climbing up to try to find a way out,” adds Jack. “And he’s not alone in the sewer pipes – there are rats!”
Undeterred, the cunning lad finally finds a way out of his prison.
“Let’s just say he gets the better of Gail and Nick,” teases Jack. “But what happens after he escapes has huge consequences for many people.”
Steve’s at breaking point
Steve’s finally bitten the bullet and had his genetic test done, but if he thinks he will have some peace during the anxious wait for the results, he can think again.
Hurricane Tracy bursts into the Rovers, furious with her ex and Michelle for not telling her about Jim’s myotonic dystrophy. While Steve tries to reassure her that Amy is likely to be unaffected, Michelle is raging that Leanne has blabbed to the florist, not only about Jim’s illness but her pregnancy too.
Unable to take the betrayal lying down, Michelle confronts her pal and lays in to her for going behind her back and being so indiscreet.
Of course, Leanne can’t tell Michelle her real motivations for going to Tracy, so how will she manage to explain away her actions? And will Michelle believe her?
As the pressure piles on Steve from all angles, is the pub landlord about to descend into another spiral of despair?
Look who's back
Some homecomings are welcome, others not so, and it’s safe to say Peter Barlow’s surprise return this week falls into the latter camp.
With Ken about to depart on his travels, he’s stunned when his son arrives unannounced. Sporting
a cut on his forehead and being typically evasive about how he got it, Ken questions why Peter is back.
Peter claims he’s been sacked from work after a bust-up, but the family don’t buy it. He’s also upset Simon after failing to turn up to his football presentation, and Tracy balks when Peter asks for money.
Nevertheless, Ken lets his son stay at his when he says he has nowhere else to go.
But when Barlow senior readies to leave for his trip in the middle of the night and catches Peter behaving oddly, he starts to question his decision.
And he’s right to worry. Before long, events take a frightening turn at No.1 and the family reels in shock. What has Peter done?
