Who is Paul Chowdhry?

YOU might recognise Paul Chowdhry as the host of the fifth series of Stand Up for the Week on Channel 4.

The comedian is well known for his outspoken and sometimes shocking commentary on race, sex and culture and his catchphrase “What’s happening, white people?”

Who is Paul Chowdhry and what is he famous for?

Tajpaul Singh Chowdhry, better known as Paul Chowdhry, is an English comedian of Indian descent.

He was born on August 21, 1974, in Edgware, London.

Chowdhry began his stand-up career in 1998 and had his first major break with a small part in the film Rogue Trader starring Ewan McGregor and Anna Friel.

He was the first British act to perform at the Caribbean Comedy Festival in Trinidad in 2003.

In 2017, he was a guest stand-up performer in The Russell Howard Hour.

Following this came the enormous success of his Live Innit stand-up tour which made him the first British Asian comedian to sell out the 10,000-seater Wembley Arena.

His performance was voted by the public as one of Wembley Arena’s top ten shows of 2017.

Chowdhry is the winner of the Asian Professional Media Award (2014), the Loaded Laftas Funniest Stand Up (2013), the Observer’s Critic’s Choice Award (2005) and the South African International Comedy Festival Critics Award (2003).

Since 2021, he has been hosting the podcast The Paul Chowdhry PudCast, in which he interviews comedians.

What TV shows has he been in?

Chowdhry has been a guest panellist on 8 out of 10 Cats, Comedy World Cup, and Sorry, I Didn’t Know.

He was one of the contestants on series three of the comedy show Taskmaster in 2016.

He has also appeared on Live at the Apollo twice, in 2012 and 2015.
