PAINFUL PERFORMANCES

Sarah Harding blames shambolic Ghost performances on knee injury sustained in The Jump

Girls Aloud singer claims mental and physical strain has been the cause of her dodgy acting

SARAH Harding has admitted mental and physical strain has impacted on her performances in Ghost the Musical - after The Sun revealed she’s back on the booze and painkillers.

The ex Girls Aloud singer blamed her anguish on being in constant pain due to a knee injury she sustained on Channel 4’s dangerous ski show The Jump in February.

Sarah, 34, spoke out after The Sun told how pals feared she was on the verge of a breakdown following an on-stage meltdown in Blackpool on Monday.

In a statement Sarah said: “I would like to go on the record and say since appearing in The Jump, I have been in constant pain with my knee injury, and as anyone in chronic pain will be able to tell you, it can take a massive toll on your mental as well as physical well being.

“There is of course a pressure I feel to perform daily and I try to give the role of Molly in Ghost the musical, my all.”

Sarah, playing Ghost’s female lead Molly, was replaced by understudy Kelly Hampson — who won rave reviews — during Monday night’s show.

She left the audience gobsmacked when she fluffed her lines and messed up the famous clay moulding scene.

Just hours before, she was sacked by her manager due to her unpredictable behaviour.

The star only returned to the show a month ago in September after being diagnosed with an upper respiratory tract infection which took her six days to get over.

Despite her acting being savaged by critics, Sarah added: “I’m committed to the production, cast, crew and amazing audiences round the UK who have been nothing but kind and supportive.

“I have the joy of working with some incredibly talented individuals, and I still highly recommend people come and see the show to judge for themselves.”

The troubled star was checked into a rehab in South Africa in 2011 for alcohol and depression after her split from fiance DJ Tom Crane.

She later admitted an addiction to sleeping tablets.
