YouTuber Oli White reflects on the moment he realised he’d made it big on his own terms
OLI White has opened up about his incredible success as one of Britain’s most biggest YouTube stars.
During an exclusive interview with The Sun Online, the 21-year-old vlogger, who boasts 250 million views on the video sharing website, revealed the moment he realised he’d made it big while staying true to his online audience.
Oli said: “My stand out moment was when I did my book tour earlier this year.
“To see the support from so many people coming out to the bookstores - I didn’t think that kind of thing was possible.
“I don’t know why people would want to come and queue up and stuff because I don’t see myself as a celebrity.”
Oli created his self-titled YouTube channel in 2012 and has since amassed 2.5 million loyal subscribers.
His debut novel Generation Next topped the Amazon Best Sellers list in May and he’s been swamped with TV offers since.
Talking about his decision to stay true to his channel, Oli said: “I did some stuff for CBBC a couple of years ago and there’s been talk of TV projects since but nothing is set in stone.
“The thing I prefer about YouTube is I have full creative control.
“I can just be me and have a laugh – it’s all natural.
“There’s no one telling me what to say or do and I’m not reading from a script.”
When asked if he’d ever be tempted by a big money off to appear on a show like I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here, Oli said:
“The money isn’t a persuasive thing for me.
“I put enough of my life out there on YouTube already and I like being in control of that… plus I don’t even know if I could eat bugs!
“I just want to keep creating better content and enjoying it.
“There’s so much more to come in the next few years.”
