Female vicar sends viewers into frenzy with saucy statue of St George clutching his ‘dragon’
The steamy statue showing St George killing a dragon proved to be a source of amusement for viewers
A LADY vicar gave Antiques Roadshow fans the willies with a statue that looked to have a giant todger.
Viewers bombarded Twitter with comments about the effigy of St George gripping the head of his dragon foe.
The BBC1 show’s expert Philip Mould exclaimed on Sunday night: “Ah, I see he’s wrestling with it. How does he go down with the congregation?”
Reverend Stella Bailey confessed the statue is banished to the organ loft at St Mary Magdalen church in Coventry because of how saucy it looks when viewed side-on.
She said: “He’s started to cause a bit of a problem with the congregation and worry a few of them.
“He’s caused a bit of concern when it’s silhouetted against a window.”
“He’s been relegated to the organ loft nowadays.”
Philip valued it at £3,000, saying: “I can see where you’re coming from.”
A Twitter user known as Jon joked: “Antiques Roadshow should be on past the watershed.”
Another quipped: “A vicar on #antiquesroadshow just told the world that an antique St George wood sculpture looks like it’s w******.”
Despite the saucy statue, the church’s whole collection was valued at £50,000.
Last week Great British Bake Off viewers were stunned when Andrew Smyth’s knight cake appeared to have a willy.
