AS one of Britain’s most eligible bachelors, Olly Murs held out as long as anyone reasonably could – but his proposal to girlfriend Amelia Tank didn’t go quite as smoothly as expected.
“I did get down on one knee — the only slightly embarrassing issue was she had to help me up after my recent knee operation” Olly says.
“Fortunately she said yes all the same, we couldn’t be happier.”
Olly and Amelia — a successful bodybuilder and personal trainer — have been dating for around three years, and the star jokes that he had long planned to propose, but wanted to do it in his own time.
Joining us at Bizarre HQ for the afternoon ahead of the first single from his long-awaited new album, which is terrific radio-friendly pop, he explains: “We want to get married next summer. That is tricky because we got engaged in June so only have a year to figure it out.
She’s quite impulsive
“But it was the right time, it was perfect. Everything about me and Amelia is perfect so it was really just a question of how can we make it even better?”

Laughing, the singer refuses to say quite how much he blew on the ring, but admits: “It was an expensive thing to do. I’ve never owned jewellery in my life.
“But it wasn’t about the money. I wanted her to have the ring she wanted, well the ring I think she wanted, and I got it right thank God . . . but she did make it easier.
“Something must have come up on her Instagram feed and she said, ‘This is the ring. I will show you this once and once only.’ It was one evening, we were watching Bake Off and now it is the biggest moment of my life.
“I screenshot it, remembered it and luckily I found it in the end. Since then we have never spoken about it, it is weird.

“But I always said to Amelia — because we watch all these dating shows, Love Is Blind, Married At First Sight, Love Island, Amelia is obsessed with them — that the only thing I ask is that I propose to you. I know what Amelia is like. She is quite impulsive. She would have just proposed to me otherwise.
“So I waited and I knew it would be that time, we were going away with her family.
“We were on a clifftop down on the south coast, loads of relatives were there, her brother took some pictures, and I dropped to one knee.
“It is lucky I didn’t start rolling as she wouldn’t have been able to catch me.”
And his return to the pop landscape after a lengthy break will be Amelia’s first chance to see Olly doing what he does best.
He explains: “I also want to show Amelia what I do.
I feel so content
“For the last three years it has just been us two at the house, me with two knee operations, eating too much. I need to try and show her she is marrying someone who has had a successful career.
“She has seen me on TV and the plaques on the walls but I want to show her what I am good at. This is my first chance.
Of his album Marry Me, out in December, he said: “I didn’t know how much fun it would be to write about me and Amelia a little bit — it’s not all about us, but there is an element of Amelia in each song which I can relate to and she can relate to.
“It is great to have a moment in my life where I feel so content at home and so happy.
“Things are in the best possible place they could be — at least until you start talking wedding plans which is stressful as hell. But now I am just concentrating on work again and I have nothing to worry about at home. It is so settled and lovely.
“It is the first time I have walked in to see you guys at The Sun in ten years and I felt totally calm. I used to be worried about what the rumours on the street were. Now I am with Amelia and I am so settled and so in love.”
Tour with Tom on TV wishlist
AFTER sitting next to Sir Tom Jones as a coach on The Voice for the past five series, Olly is campaigning for them to get their own travel show together.
The Troublemaker singer reckons they could be a comedy double act, like Bradley Walsh and his son Barney in ITV show Breaking Dad.
Olly, above with Sir Tom, said: “He is a top man and if anything, I am like his annoying little grandson. That friendship between us is great. I would love to do more with Tom.
“I would love to try to do one of those travel shows with him or something. Me and Tom travelling in a campervan together would be hilarious.
“I would love to take Tom to different places in the world that he has been to, like go back to Vegas and hear the stories about him over there, because he has so many great stories.”
Right Said Fred are so wrong says Beyonce
BEYONCE has lashed out at cheesy pop duo Right Said Fred, after they claimed in Bizarre that she had ripped them off.
They had branded her “arrogant” because they claimed she hadn’t asked permission to sample their 1991 hit I’m Too Sexy on her song Alien Superstar, which features on her No1 album Renaissance.
But in a rare rebuttal, the superstar hit back, claiming that not only did she ask permission but they have also been paid for their contribution.
A statement from Bey’s team said: “Permission was not only granted for its use, but (Right Said Fred) publicly spoke of their gratitude for being on the album. For their song, there was no sound recording use, only the composition was utilised.

“Permission was asked of their publisher on May 11, 2022 and the publisher approved the use on June 15, 2022. They were paid for the usage in August.”
Sounds like they ought to double check their bank balance before hitting out.
