Prepare to be entertained by the Rocky Horror Picture Show reboot starring Tim Curry and Orange is the new Black’s Laverne Cox
Die-hard Rocky Horror fans and newbies alike are in for a stocking-clad treat
ROLL on next Friday.
I’ve got the whole night mapped out.
I’ll get home from work, have dinner as usual then pop upstairs and slip into fishnet tights, a little black dress and high heels.
I do it regularly but don’t worry, my wife is completely fine about it and so, surprisingly, are the neighbours.
You see, I’m a Rocky Horror Picture Show fan and this is what we do.
Whenever the stage show comes to town, or the movie is on telly, we celebrate the wilder sides we prefer to keep buttoned up in the 9-5 working week.
And on Friday, October 28, there will be a massive reason to dress up.
Sky Cinema is showing Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again — a feature- length reboot to mark 40 years of the 1975 cult flick.
If you’re a fan you’re in for a treat.
For Rocky Horror virgins here’s the plot. Straitlaced sweethearts Brad Majors and Janet Weiss wander into a castle owned by Dr Frank-N-Furter, the self-proclaimed “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania”, who is creating Rocky Horror, the perfect hunk.
Naturally, all that campness means Brad and Janet are never the same again.
But why, I hear you scream, remake something already perfect?
Well, don’t worry — showing just in time for Halloween, Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again is based on the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O’Brien, and features O’Brien’s music. Narrated by Tim Curry, it keeps the same knowing, schlock-horror feeling of the original.
In a bit of genius casting, Tim’s old role goes to Laverne Cox, the transgender actor who plays Sophia Burset in Orange Is the New Black.
It’s the perfect way of bringing the original show bang up to date for a younger, more switched-on audience.
All together now: “Let’s do the time warp again!”
Enjoy Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again exclusively on Sky Cinema from October 28
Freaky Facts
- The clock featured in ‘The Time Warp’ had a real skeleton inside — it sold for £35,000 at auction.
- Mick Jagger wanted to play Dr Frank-N- Furter in the original film but he was turned down in favour of Tim Curry. Filming in the rain gave Susan Sarandon, who played the innocent Janet, pneumonia. But like a trooper she worked through it.
- The famous floating red lips that sing the film’s opening song belong to Patricia Quinn, however it’s not her voice that sings ‘Science Fiction Double Feature’. Singer Ivy Levan is the woman behind the new pair of red lips. She also plays Usherette.
