The first track released on StemDrop is Red Lights by Swedish songwriting icon Max Martin — the man behind hits including Britney’s Oops!…I Did It Again and Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off.

And since its release on October 19, “stems” of the song — such as the bass, piano and lyrics — have been shared by more than two billion people.

Simon, who has been working on the project for two years, said: “I’ve always believed songs are the most important part of an artist’s career and this — the opportunity to collaborate with a successful songwriter — could be the missing link.

“But I knew that if we did it, it had to be with the best songwriter alive, and that’s why I approached Max.

"Thankfully he loved the idea. Suddenly there were billions of people sharing it on TikTok all over the world.

"We’ve already seen hundreds of thousands of versions.”
