The Walking Dead’s Melissa McBride speaks about Carol’s struggle with killing as she starts to think of walkers as ‘normal’ people
THE Walking Dead's Melissa McBride has opened up about her character Carol Peletier's newfound struggle with killing in season seven as she begins to think of walkers as "normal" people.
Speaking to , the 51-year-old actress has revealed the new internal conflict Carol is facing over the next few episodes.
Viewers this week watched as she and Morgan entered 'The Kingdom', which is under the reign of King Ezekiel and his tiger Shiva.
But Carol is quickly keen to leave the new group.
Melissa revealed: "She doesn’t want to get involved with another group, she’s not sure where she’s at as far as being able to kill — she’s doesn’t feel like she can."
The actress added: "She can’t ask them to save her life if she’s not willing to save theirs. She’s in a hard place."
When asked how Carol would react to Glenn's murderer Negan if they came face-to-face, she replied: "Carol doesn’t know what’s going on. I don’t want to be there when she finds out. Yeah I do."
She described their meeting with their ambushing the Saviors as a "turning point" and her needing to kill to survive is now weighing heavily on her.

Melissa said: "It’s hard to keep continuing doing it. At the top of this episode, she was looking at these walkers coming at her and they’re morphing into normal looking people."
The actress revealed that she "just gets to a point where she feels like she doesn’t know what to do".
This is why Carol, Melissa said, can't be around anyone: " She thinks it’s better to go off and be alone and not know what’s happening. If she looked anyone in the eye, she would have fallen apart."
She added that while Carol and Ezekiel are dissimilar in the sense that she is struggling with the morality of killing walkers, they are "not so dissimilar in what they were doing and putting on a mask, a facade of sorts to help make it through another day".
Melissa believes that the reason for Carol still standing is that "she found something in herself through the loss of other people and that’s been enough to keep her going."
Season 7 episode 2 The Walking Dead will be airing tonight in the UK at 9pm on Fox.
