Coronation Street actress Lucy Fallon hints at new dark storyline for Bethany Platt
The soap star said that the character could 'go off the rails' in the next few weeks
CORONATION Street actress Lucy Fallon has hinted that her character Bethany Platt is set for a rough time as she becomes tangled in a new dark storyline.
The troubled teen has already been subject to bullying and an obsession with dieting and exercise - but it seems like life won't get much easier for her.
Corrie producer Kate Oates has previously mentioned that she had big storyline coming up for Bethany.
The character is set to be even more upset after finding out that her crush and trainer Gary Windass is dating her mum Sarah.
Lucy spoke to about how Bethany could react to the idea of Gary and Sarah becoming serious: ""I think that would be quite problematic. I think she would go off the rails if that happened."
She added that the character is "trying to push" her feelings about Gary aside but that they are still there: "And that might cause problems".
The actress also pointed out that Bethany has now had feelings for two of the men her mum has dated - Callum and now Gary - and added: "But she has also always been interested in people who are older and I think her vulnerability is going to cause her problems in the future."
Lucy also mentioned that her "confidence has really been chipped away" after the bullying and that it is "going to chip away even more".
She revealed: "I think that she has matured in some ways but she is so vulnerable and lonely now."
The actress added: "She has grown up as a character; she doesn't want to hurt people now whereas she may have done before when she was a bit gobbier – now she is more vulnerable."
Last month, producer Kate Oates also teased that Bethany would be embroiled in a big storyline.
She revealed: "What we'll see is what can happen to a teenage girl as her self-esteem is chipped away and what a dangerous thing that can be."
