When is T2: Trainspotting out in the UK, who does CBB’s James Cosmo play, who else is in the cast and is there a trailer?
IT WAS one of the most ground-breaking films of the Nineties and made household names of its lead stars.
Twenty one years later, the Trainspotting gang are back to reunite and wreak more havoc on the streets of Edinburgh.
And tonight, the eagerly-awaited film is released in cinemas up and down the UK.
But what is T2: Trainspotting all about? Here’s what we know.
What is T2: Trainspotting about?
It is the sequel to Danny Boyle’s ground-breaking 1996 film Trainspotting which followed a group of friends in working-class Edinburgh, some of whom are heroin addicts, and their struggles with poverty, squalor and every day trials and tribulations.
T2 sees Mark Renton return to Scotland to reunite with his friends and make amends after he stole a small fortune from them twenty years earlier, while trying to avoid the psychopathic Francis Begbie who has just been released from prison.
Trainspotting was based on Scottish author Irvine Welsh’s book of the same name and the sequel is partly based on his novel Porno, which is set ten years after the first book.
It's certainly moved with the times as the updated version of Renton’s Choose Life, which he narrated over Underworld’s Born Slippy, has been updated for 2017.
Instead of: “Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a f*****g big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin can openers," he know preaches: "Choose Life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares. Choose your future. Choose reality TV. Choose slut shaming, revenge porn. Choose a zero-hour contract, two-hour journey to work and choose the same for your kids, only worse.”
Who does James Cosmo play and who else is in the cast?
Veteran Scottish actor James Cosmo returns as Mark Renton’s father but will miss all the promo tours and premieres because he is currently inside the Celebrity Big Brother house.
All the old and familiar faces have returned to reprise their roles for the sequel.
Ewan McGregor returns as Mark Renton, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy, Robert Carlyle as Francis ‘Franco’ Begbie and Ewen Bremner as Daniel ‘Spud’ Murphy.
Other stars from the first movie are also seen in the new film including Kelly MacDonald as Diane, Shirley Henderson as Gail and Irvine Welsh as Mikey Forrester.
Is there a new trailer?
There is a new trailer which you can watch here:
Renton is seen arriving back in Edinburgh after he was last seen fleeing to Amsterdam with a stash of cash he made off a heroin deal that he'd stolen from Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud - who he reimburses at the end.
He walks into a pub and comes face to face with Sick Boy who declares: “What have you been up to – for 20 years?”
Begbie is then seen returning to the city to seek revenge on Renton for stealing his money after a spell in prison and Spud also returns, delighted to see his old pal Mark.
