ACCLAIMED Netflix drama The Crown, which began in 2016 and chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II, boasts one hell of a stellar cast.
But which stars are taking on the roles of the Royals and their closest consorts? Here are the main players...
Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II)
The Stockport-born actress, 32, studied drama at Liverpool John Moore University and the Oxford School of Drama. Her first TV role as Julia, George’s former fiancé in the pilot episode of BBC drama Being Human.
She starred in Season of the Witch alongside Hollywood star Nicolas Cage but she is probably best recognised for her role as Anne Boleyn in the drama series Wolf Hall, starring alongside Damien Lewis as Henry VIII and Mark Rylance, who played Thomas Cromwell.
She was highly praised for her performance in the first series of The Crown, winning a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe, as well as earning a Bafta nomination.
Matt Smith (Prince Philip)
Matt, 34, is best known for his role as Doctor Who, which he took over from David Tennant in 2009 and received a Bafta nomination in 2011.
He left the show at the end of the Christmas special in 2013 and was replaced by Peter Capaldi.
In 2016 he starred alongside his girlfriend Lily James in Pride Prejudice and Zombies and has also portrayed both the physical embodiment and a holographic version of Skynet in Terminator Genisys.
John Lithgow (Winston Churchill)
John’s career has spanned over 40 years during which time he has appeared on stage, screen and TV.
He has two Tony awards, five Emmys, two Golden Globes, and has also been nominated for two Oscars.
He is best known on TV for his roles as Dick Solomon in 3rd Rock From The Sun and Arthur Mitchell in Dexter.
He also appeared in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Interstellar.
In The Crown, John plays former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill but after resigning at the end of the first series, it is yet to be seen if he will reappear in any capacity in series two.
Vanessa Kirby (Princess Margaret)
Born in Wimbledon, Vanessa starred as Estella in the BBC adaptation of Great Expectations and as Joanna in the romantic comedy About Time alongside Rachel McAdams.
In The Crown she plays Elizabeth's younger sister Princess Margaret.
Greg Wise (Lord Mountbatten)
Greg is best known for his role as John Willoughby in the period drama film Sense and Sensibility.
He is married to actress Emma Thompson and in The Crown he plays naval officer Lord Mountbatten, an uncle of Prince Philip.
Victoria Hamilton (The Queen Mother)
Victoria is best-known for her parts in TV shows like Doctor Foster and What Remains, plus several period dramas like Lark Rise To Candleford.
She played Mrs Forster in the beloved TV serial of Pride And Prejudice and has also starred in the film adaptations of Persuasion and Mansfield Park.
In 2001 she played a young Queen Victoria in factual BBC series Victoria & Albert.
Now, in The Crown, she plays Elizabeth, the mother of Elizabeth II, known as The Queen Mother to avoid confusion with her daughter.
Michael C Hall (President John F. Kennedy)
The Dexter actor joins the cast in series two as American President John F. Kennedy.
Michael, 46, won Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards for his role in Dexter, which came to an end in 2013.
He has also starred in HBO drama series Six Feet Under as well as movies including Paycheck and Kill Your Darlings.
Jodi Balfour (Jackie Kennedy)
South African actress Jodi Balfour has been cast as Michael's on-screen wife, Jackie Kennedy for series two.
She is known for her role as Gladys Witham in the Canadian drama Bomb Girls and last year she also joined the cast of Quarry.

Jeremy Northam (Anthony Eden)
Jeremy Northam will resume his role as future Prime Minister Anthony Eden in series two.
Jeremy, 55, has appeared in films including Gosford Park, Emma and Enigma, as well as playing Thomas More in Showtime series, The Tudors.
Matthew Goode (Lord Snowdon/Antony Armstrong-Jones)
British actor Matthew Goode has had a stellar career, starring in movies including Chasing Liberty, Brideshead Revisited and The Imitation Game.
He has also guest starred in Downton Abbey and The Good Wife.
Matthew will play Lord Snowdon/Antony Armstrong-Jones, a society photographer who romances and goes on to marry Princess Margaret.
